Avocado's opportunities
Mexico is the craddle of avocado, it is also the biggest exporter. During 2016, the main exports were shipped to the United States, Japan, Canada, Spain, France, Netherlands and China.
The main five global importers are the US 51%, Netherlands 11%, France 8%, Germany 6%, and Spain 5%
The exports of avocado increased on a 21% during the first semester of 2020.

Main Avocado Exporters
Parallely, the main five main exporters have been Mexico 47%, Peru 14%, Netherlands 14%, Chile 6%, and Spain 6%.
The North American market is dominated by the Mexican avocado, due to a series of competitive advantages, such as the geographic position and the economic integration through USMCA. However, when analyzing the imports of the European Union, it is clear that Peru and Chile dominate this market.

You can notice in the previously exposed data that The Netherlands is one of the main customers of mexican avocado, one of the main exporters and one of the main importers. How does this work?
The detail that is worth watching is that The Netherlands is an exporter, not a producer such as Mexico. In fact, the Dutch exports are actually re-exports..
The Netherlands, as is well consideded by the Economy Secretariat, its an attractive market for the mexican avocado exports. Due to the big practice of re-exporting, you can find an importer with greater ease than other EU members while gaining access to the total of the EU market.
Since Holland is a re-exporter country, it becomes part of a supply chain. What the importers in The Netherlands are looking for is to re-sell those avocados to France, Germany, UK, scandinavian countries and others.
The main purchaser to the Dutch avocado is France, therefore it is much important to know what the French find important in avocados as final customers.
The trend in the French market is to aim to quality. It is important to bear in mind that mexican and peruvian avocado have a seasonal advantage in Winter due to the lack of production in Spain, the european avocado producer.

The Economy Secretariat suggests the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, the UK and China as the most appealing markets for mexican avocado exports.

Mexico has a great advantage over Peru when it comes to avocado exports to the EU, due to the geographic position, which allows to ship fresher avocados.
To sum up, the exports of mexican avocado have multiple opportunities to diverse. One of which is the EU, due to the previously exposed advantages over the other avocado exporters.
The chinese market is also appealing due to its economic development, great population and limited competence.
